Even by the brazen standards of the international drug trade, it was a brazen heist: almost half a ton of cocaine stolen from a guarded police compound, in the middle of the capital, by men in police uniforms carrying AK-47 assault rifles. The men, 15 of them, overwhelmed and shackled two police guards at the entrance and another two inside. They walked up to a tractor-trailer packed floor to ceiling with cocaine confiscated in a series of anti-narcotics raids.
