Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said Monday that Palestinian parliamentary elections will take place as scheduled on Jan. 25, after he received U.S. assurances that Arab residents of Jerusalem will be allowed to vote in the city. Israel initially threatened to ban Palestinian voting in Jerusalem, but agreed Monday to allow campaigning in the city claimed by both sides as a capital, a move seen as a first step to permitting voting in the city.
