Japan will not normalize diplomatic ties with North Korea unless the issue of abducted Japanese is resolved, Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said, a day after Tokyo and Pyongyang agreed to resume talks on normalisation. “It will never be the case that talks on normalization would see any progress without resolving the abduction issue,” Abe told reporters on Monday. “(The government) will do our utmost to solve this most important issue, the problem of abduction.” Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi separately told reporters the normalization talks would not make progress unless the abduction issue is dealt with.Full Story
