Rebels who abandoned 29 hostages in the Colombian jungle, apparently due to pressure from pursuing government forces, had been planning to turn the captives over to the Red Cross, the Switzerland-based group said Wednesday. Colombian guerrilla groups took 29 police officers hostage Saturday after hundreds of their fighters attacked San Marino village in the country’s remote western region.
