Two dozen people were hurt Monday, some of them seriously, in a clash between police and protesters who were blocking a road in the southwestern Bolivian province of Oruro, authorities said. The provincial police commander, Jaime Espindola, told the press that 17 of his officers were hurt along with seven demonstrators. The confrontation took place in Caracollo, 199 kilometers (123 miles) south of La Paz, where since last week students from teachers’ colleges have mounted sporadic roadblocks to press demands for reform at those institutions.
