One Philippine soldier was killed as renewed fighting with suspected Islamic militants with ties to al Qaeda entered a second day on the remote southwestern island of Jolo, an army general said on Thursday. Brigadier-General Alexander Aleo, commander of the military’s counter-terrorism task force, also said two soldiers were wounded in the clashes with Abu Sayyaf rebels in mountains near Indanan town. “Fighting was very intense,” Aleo told reporters. “We’re not giving our enemies any breathing spell.
