Thailand tacitly acknowledged yesterday that the violent unrest in its troubled Muslim-majority south was spreading, a day after overnight bomb blasts at electrical power plants and relay stations plunged part of the southern town of Narathiwat into darkness. Although Thailand declared an ongoing state of emergency in its three southern-most provinces in July, the government yesterday imposed martial law in two further southern districts in the adjacent province of Songkhla, the commercial centre of the southern region.
