Separatist militants launched more than 20 attacks in Thailand’s restive Muslim south on Wednesday evening, killing one village chief, burning government buildings and stealing at least 19 weapons, the army said. At least half of the attacks targeted members of civilian militias created by the government to provide emergency security against a 22-month ethnic Malay insurgency in which nearly 1,000 people have been killed, the army said.
