The leftist Ecuadorean group that allegedly sent members for guerrilla training in Venezuela has been around for nearly two years, but it’s not clear how large or dangerous it is, according to the country’s military intelligence. By all appearances, the previously unknown Alfarist Liberation Army seems to be drawing from a radical university population often at the forefront of political demonstrations over issues such as free trade and U.S. anti-drug policies in Ecuador and neighboring Colombia.
