Nine out of 10 Mexicans admit to having bribed a police officer on at least one occasion and three-quarters of the citizenry say they have been extorted by cops, according to a survey taken here. Moreover, 80 percent of people responding to a questionnaire on public safety in Mexico City said they prefer not to have any contact with the police. The survey was carried out by the independent Council for Law and Human Rights. Nearly 84 percent of respondents identified themselves as having been victims of crime within the last five years, and 96 percent said the Mexican capital was growing more dangerous. Full Story
