Talk about good timing. Sen. Richard Burr this week will introduce a bill designed to better prepare the country for an epidemic just as there are growing fears of a worldwide outbreak of bird flu. After spending much of his first year in the Senate working on the issue, Burr will introduce the National Biodefense Act of 2005. The measure deals with both natural disasters, like bird flu, and man-made ones, such as a bioterrorism attack. Burr got the job because he is chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Bioterrorism and Public Health Preparedness. Full Story
