Jordan, Kuwait allocate funds to combat bird flu

Jordan and Kuwait have allocated millions of dollars to stockpile medicine in case of a breakout of bird flu as part of preventive measures to deal with the disease threat. In Turkey, authorities investigating chicken deaths in eastern regions close to Iran and Syria said initial lab tests showed no signs of bird flu. Turkish officials also played down the possibility of bird flu spreading there after its discovery in the northwest. Jordan’s Health Minister Saeed Darwazeh and Agriculture Minister Muzahem Muyahssen meanwhile told Ad-Dustour newspaper the government allocated $12.2 million to stockpile medicine in case of a breakout in the kingdom.
