Alberto Fujimori, Peru’s disgraced former president, announced on Thursday his intention to run for the presidency again in an election set for next April, a former presidential aide who remains close to Fujimori said.
But Peru’s ambassador to Japan said Fujimori, who faces criminal charges in Peru, was a fugitive and would be arrested if he returned. Fujimori fled Peru in 2000 at the height of a government corruption scandal and has been living in self-imposed exile in Japan. Full Story
