The European Union said on Wednesday it would boost aid to help rebuild Gaza after the withdrawal of Israeli troops, but only if there was progress on a Middle East peace plan and other donors also increased aid. “If the Gaza withdrawal leads really to progress in implementing the road map and also provided other donors also substantially increase their contributions, then I say the (European) Commission is ready to propose the mobilisation of additional funds,” EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner told a news conference.
