Taliban insurgents attacked an army post in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province on Thursday, killing two Afghan soldiers and wounding three, a military officer said. The fighters attacked a post shortly after midnight with rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and hand grenades, sparking an hour-long battle, said Gen Shahr Gul, a deputy army commander for Paktika and other eastern provinces. He said the attackers escaped despite the arrival of reinforcements from the Afghan army and the US-led coalition, which has about 20,000 troops fighting Taliban renants in eastern and southern Afghanistan.
