A RETIRED Philippine army general who served as an adviser to communist rebel negotiators has been detained in the United States, possibly on suspicion of terrorism, a senator said Thursday. Retired Brigadier General Raymundo Jarque and his wife, Xenia, were arrested Tuesday by immigration officials at the Dallas Forth Worth International Airport. The couple spent the night incommunicado at the Euless City Jail and was released on Wednesday morning to take a flight back to Manila. Philippine Consul Marciano Paynor Jr., who is based in Los Angeles, reported that the couple “were detained and denied entry to the US” due to his inclusion in the US terrorist watch list for his prior affiliation with the National Democratic Front, the communist party’s umbrella group. The rebels are on Washington’s list of foreign terrorist organizations, which aims to cut off the flow of funds to the rebels and restrict their foreign travel. Full Story
