Premier Silvio Berlusconi’s government suffered a serious blow Thursday as its respected economy minister resigned amid a standoff with the Bank of Italy chief, prompting the center-left opposition to call for early elections. Domenico Siniscalco resigned Wednesday night, the Economy Ministry said. He had unsuccessfully tried to oust central bank governor Antonio Fazio, who has been accused of discriminating against a Dutch bank in a takeover battle. Full Story
