Brazil’s Federal Police announced Monday the suspension of 59 officers – including five precinct captains – in the wake of the robbery by unknown assailants of a warehouse containing drugs, money and valuables confiscated in raids here last week. The head of the Federal Police in Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Prel, told reporters that he had opened an internal investigation and that the entire anti-narcotics division had been suspended. Prel said at a press conference that all the agents on guard at the warehouse on the weekend had been suspended and that authorities had requested help from the banking industry in tracing the stolen cash.
