Talks on dismantling North Korea’s nuclear weapons programs sunk into deadlock on Thursday, with Washington and Pyongyang at odds over the North’s insistence on its right to a nuclear energy program. Failure to reach an accord at the Beijing talks could prompt the United States to take the issue to the U.N. Security Council and press for sanctions. China opposes such a move, and communist North Korea has said sanctions would be tantamount to war. After three days of talks there was no sign of an early end to the crisis, with the U.S. and North Korean delegations unable to make headway during a 90-minute one-on-one meeting.Full Story
