Jakarta misses Tuesday amnesty date for Aceh rebels
Indonesia failed to issue an amnesty for some 2,000 jailed members of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) on Tuesday, despite a pledge to do so. The amnesty is a key plank of the peace deal which saw GAM give up their demand for independence in tsunami-devastated Aceh province, effectively ending three decades of bloody fighting. Vice President Jusuf Kalla had said the government would grant the amnesty on Tuesday following an August 15 truce between the government and rebels.Full Story
