Kiir to become Sudan VP this week

Salva Kiir, who took over as Southern Sudan’s leader following the death of John Garang, is due to be sworn in as Sudan’s vice-president this week. The swearing in ceremony will be take place in Khartoum on Tuesday, President Omar al-Bashir’s office announced. Mr Kiir will succeed former rebel leader Mr Garang, who died three weeks after becoming vice-president as part of a deal to end decades of conflict. Despite his death both sides have vowed to press ahead with the peace process. Full Story
