THE Italian lawyer for one of the alleged London bombers is trying to get him “a Mafia-style deal” to give him a new identity and immunity if he co-operates with investigators in Rome. If she succeeds then Hussain Osman, who allegedly tried to blow up a Tube train at Shepherds Bush, could go into hiding in Italy and evade British justice. Maria Antonietta Sonnessa says that her strategy is to stop Mr Osman being handed over to Britain. The first step for the lawyer is to persuade magistrates that Mr Osman, 27, should be tried first in Italy under the country’s new anti-terrorism laws, which were only approved by parliament last week. The fate of Mr Osman could turn into a test case for these new laws. Full Story
