The drafters of Iraq’s constitution have called for an emergency meeting of religious, ethnic and political leaders to thrash out the most divisive issues facing the country, The Washington Post said. Called by Humam Hamoudi, chairman of the 18-member constitution-writing committee, the meeting will be held Thursday and Friday, if enough leaders can come, US officials told the daily. The major divisive issue on the agenda was federalism favored by the Kurdish and Shiite communities, but opposed by the Sunni minority, which was in power under dictator Saddam Hussein. Full Story
