Police in the northern Indian city of Kanpur are randomly checking the contents of mobile phones after video clips showing a rally by Osama bin Laden, the September 11 2001 attacks, and execution-style killings were circulated. The two clips, which run for a total of 57 seconds, have been spreading around the city of almost three million people in Uttar Pradesh. They show edited portions of videos allegedly released by al-Qaida, senior police superintendent Prabhat Meena said. “Orders have been issued to start random checking of cell phones. If anyone is found carrying the Osama MMS (multimedia message), he will be charged with sedition,” Mr Meena said. Full Story
