Pakistan to Help Afghans Contain Election Strife

Pakistan assured Afghanistan on Sunday that it would do all it could to prevent militant violence ahead of September elections in Afghanistan, and announced that it would give $100 million in aid. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz of Pakistan visited Kabul after repeated Afghan complaints that militants allied with Afghanistan’s former Taliban rulers had infiltrated from havens in Pakistan to carry out attacks in which hundreds of people have died this year.
