Spanish court OKs extraditions in Argentine ‘Dirty War’
Spain’s Supreme Court has cleared the way for Spanish authorities to seek the extradition from Argentina of 39 men indicted for abuses during their country’s “Dirty War” — a move hailed Monday by a leading human rights lawyer. The Spanish list of suspects includes Jorge Videla and Emilio Massera, two former Argentine junta leaders. The court overturned an August 2003 decision by Spain’s previous conservative government, which had rejected a judge’s request to seek extradition on the grounds that the suspects should be tried at home.
