Australia will send 150 special forces and support troops back to Afghanistan to help its close ally the United States hunt down a resurgent Taliban and al Qaeda, Prime Minister John Howard said on Wednesday. Howard said Australia would also consider sending up to 200 extra personnel to Afghanistan early next year to help with the nation’s reconstruction and as part of Australia’s increased efforts to support the war on terror.
