Afghanistan will crack down on officials found to be spying for foreign governments in a bid to rid itself of outside influences, President Hamid Karzai’s spokesman said. Karzai told governors and police commanders at the weekend that “getting rid of these people is a top priority for the government,” spokesman Karim Rahimi told reporters at a regular news conference in Kabul. “They will be dealt very seriously — whether they’re high-ranking or working in low-profile government posts,” he added on Tuesday.
