Pentagon officials yesterday warned about escalating violence in Afghanistan, as dozens of insurgents and pro-government forces were killed in one of the bloodiest clashes this year. The attacks in the restive south of Afghanistan raised the death toll in fighting over the past week to more than 100. In Washington, Peter Rodman, assistant secretary of defence for international security affairs, warned the House armed services committee to expect Taliban forces to escalate attacks in the run up to the country’s September elections.Full Story
