Gloria Arroyo, the president of the Philippines, yesterday admitted controversial allegations that she spoke to a senior election official and expressed her desire to win last year’s poll by a million votes. Mrs Arroyo, who officially won by 1.1 million votes, insisted she did not influence the outcome of the election. But the opposition, which claims that the ballot was rigged, called for her resignation. Full Story
