Three car bombs, which went off almost simultaneously about a kilometer (half a mile) apart, killed 18 people and wounded 48 in a mainly Shi’ite district of west Baghdad on Wednesday, police said. The bombs, apparently in stationary cars, struck the Shola neighborhood after dark, causing widespread damage and casualties on the district’s main street, near a restaurant and close to a car repair workshop, police sources said.
