Ecuadorian authorities arrested seven people as part of a multicountry effort to break up a drug trafficking network that financed the Lebanon-based Shiite Muslim militia Hezbollah, the police announced Tuesday. Col. Edison Ramos, the commander of the Quito police’s narcotics unit, told journalists that last week a Syrian, an Algerian, a Turk, a Nigerian, an Ecuadorian and two Lebanese were arrested here.
