Australia has rejected calls for the country’s sole detainee at Guantanamo Bay to be returned home following US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s comments that Washington was open to repatriating those held at the controversial camp. Justice Minister Chris Ellison said he did not want David Hicks to return to Australia until the US justice system had dealt with the terrorism allegations that resulted in his incarceration at the US base in Cuba.
