A storage tank exploded Thursday at a sewage plant near Northern Ireland’s second-largest city of Londonderry, killing one man and wounding two others, firefighters and witnesses said. The explosion at the Carnmoney Water Works appeared accidental, according to firefighters and police, who launched an investigation into what caused the tank — containing water-purification chemicals — to explode.
