Three armed men hijacked a bus in the southern Philippines on Tuesday and were holding 13 passengers hostage, security officials said. Chief Superintendent Dante Tejada, the regional police chief, said soldiers and police officers had allowed the bus to leave a checkpoint after the gunmen threatened to harm the hostages, including some women, after a standoff of nearly five hours.
