The legend of the Chambal ravines was revisited on Sunday when the Etawah police on Sunday gunned down seven members, including three bandit queens, of the dreaded Salim alias Pahelwan Gurjar gang. Salim, however, escaped into the ravines of Chambal. Acting on a tip-off that the gang was camping in Bihar village, the policemen cordoned off the area and opened fire. The gang retaliated by firing at the police party. At the end of the encounter that lasted nearly an hour, seven gang members were killed, while Salim escaped under fire cover. Full Story
