Rebel militants hiding in the jungles of Malaita, Solomon Islands, have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Allan Kemakeza. The group, calling itself the Malaita Separatist Movement, said Kemakeza’s pro-Australian stance has put the sovereignty of Solomon Islands at risk. The group also alleges that Australians in the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI)are driven by ethnic hatred, directed particularly against Malaitans. The Prime Minister’s office said Kemakeza did not have time to respond. The group, which claims 66 members, is made up mainly of former members of the Malaitan Eagle Force, most of whom are also wanted by police.
