Taliban fighters ambushed a police chief’s convoy in southern Afghanistan, killing four policeman, and a U.S. soldier was killed in a separate ambush, police and the U.S. military said on Wednesday. The attacks were the latest in a wave of rebel violence since the end of a winter lull. The police chief of Deshu district in Helmand province, Shadi Khan, said he survived Tuesday’s attack near the Pakistani border but four of his men were killed.
