A Brazilian air force jet was on standby on Friday to rescue former Ecuadorean President Lucio Gutierrez, whom Brazil granted asylum after he was ousted in violent protests, a military spokesman said.The passenger aircraft waited in Porto Velho, western Brazil, as Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva negotiated Gutierrez’s safe passage out of Ecuador where he is holed up in Brazil’s embassy residence in Quito. “It’s only going to take off when it has authorization from Brazil’s government, which is negotiating safe passage with Ecuador’s government,” a Brazilian air force spokesman said.Full Story
