Negroponte Vows ‘Unvarnished Truth’ as Intelligence Chief

John D. Negroponte, President Bush’s nominee to be the country’s first national intelligence director, pledged today to speak the “unvarnished truth” to people in power and to do his best to break down bureaucratic and mental barriers to gathering, sharing and analyzing information. “Without good intelligence, we will be unable to defeat the terrorists who began their assault on us long before Sept. 11, 2001,” Mr. Negroponte told members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who were expected to endorse him quickly and send his nomination to the Senate floor for confirmation.Full Story
