Mercyhurst College has been awarded a $96,000 contract to train U.S. Department of Homeland Security intelligence analysts. The college, which is in the hometown of former Homeland Security secretary Tom Ridge, did not have to bid and was judged the only institution capable of meeting the department’s needs. The department and school denied any link between Ridge and the award. “There is absolutely, unequivocally no connection between (former) Secretary Ridge and the selection of Mercyhurst College for this contract,” said Michelle Petrovich, a Homeland Security spokeswoman.
