Two courthouses in opposite parts of Maryland were evacuated after receiving identical anthrax hoaxes. Envelopes containing a white powder along with notes suggesting the substance was anthrax were mailed to district courts in Garrett County in western Maryland and Worcester County in eastern Maryland. Barry Maddox, spokesman for the FBI’s Baltimore office, said the letters that arrived Monday were being investigated. “Right now, we have really no information to share other than the fact that two envelopes did get into these courthouses with suspicious white powder,” he said.
