Nepal’s ruling council headed by King Gyanendra is against holding peace talks with Maoist rebels fighting to topple the monarchy, a senior official said on Thursday. The comments by Tulsi Giri, vice chairman of the council, indicated a turnaround in the policy of Kathmandu which had said that it was willing to discuss all Maoist demands after the king sacked the government and assumed power last month.
