Defense: The Maryland Emergency Management Agency is working to safeguard the state’s largest industry from terrorists. Maryland is stepping up its defense against terrorist threats, which could target farms or the nation’s food supply. The public image of a terrorist attack often involves the use of explosives or poisonous chemicals aimed at the population, or the country’s symbols of economic, military or government power. But the target could just as likely be a beef cattle ranch in Iowa, an orange orchard in Florida or a chicken farm on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, according to agriculture officials. Full Story
