Nepal’s King Gyanendra has promised to restore democracy to the country within three years despite having grabbed power in a coup last month after dismissing his government. The king, in his first interview with the country’s media since he declared a state of emergency on Feb 1, is reported to have urged Maoist rebels to join in peace talks, stating that he believes in democratic principles.
