Fire set by Nigerian hunters to flush out game ignites explosions at armoury

Hunters burning land to flush out game set fire to a munitions dump in northern Nigeria, triggering a string of explosions which damaged military buildings and spread panic in the city of Kaduna, officials said Thursday. Radio Nigeria reported that the first blasts at the Dalet barracks on Kaduna’s outskirts were heard about 6 p.m. local time Wednesday and continued for two hours. Visiting the scene on Thursday, Nigeria’s defence minister, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, told reporters there had been no deaths or injuries, although three nearby single-storey military office buildings caught fire and hundreds of residents fled in panic.
