Colombian Senator: Ex-fighters Need Aid

The Colombian government should keep track of right-wing paramilitary fighters who surrender as part of peace talks to ensure they do not return to combat, former Defense Minister Rafael Pardo told a Miami audience Wednesday. Pardo, now a Colombian senator, took part in a seminar at the University of Miami on the peace talks between President Alvaro Uribe’s government and the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, the umbrella paramilitary group known as the AUC. ”They need to be given options for employment, to help them.
