Sinn Fein, the IRA’s political wing, tried to organize a defense Monday after nearly a week of police raids on a money-laundering ring suspected of financing the Irish Republican Army and a verbal onslaught unleashed by all sides against the group. The sharpest attack on Sinn Fein came from the party’s most seasoned and vocal critic, the Irish justice minister, Michael McDowell, who said on a Sunday radio program that three elected Sinn Fein representatives were also on the IRA’s seven-member ruling council.
