Britain has announced it will impose new financial penalties on Sinn Fein as punishment for the IRA’s alleged involvement in the robbery of a Belfast bank. Northern Ireland Secretary Paul Murphy told the House of Commons that Sinn Fein’s four members would lose their right to claim expenses — a benefit worth more than £400,000 (U.S. $750,000) annually — for 12 months.
