Fighters Surround Four Remote Villages

Suspected Marxist guerrillas have surrounded several villages in remote western Colombia, trapping up to 1,000 people and preventing food and medicine from entering, officials said Tuesday. Alleged fighters of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, took up positions around four Afro-Colombian hamlets in Chocó province, 170 miles west of Bogotá, without explanation last week, Chocó Lt.
